Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What is an aankoopkeuring for a boat?
Aankoopkeuring is a Dutch term for a pre-purchase inspection. The written scope should still define hull access, systems, sea trial, material testing, report language and the intended client.
What information is needed for a Dutch survey quote?
Provide the vessel type, construction, dimensions, exact harbour or yard, purpose and preferred date. State whether lift, pressure washing, sea trial and steel-hull thickness testing can be arranged.
Can a survey include a steel-hull thickness measurement?
Potentially, but ultrasound is a specialist scope. Surface preparation, calibration, measurement pattern and interpretation should be agreed before attendance.
Can the report be provided in English?
English reporting may be available. Confirm language, technical terms, recipient, reliance rights and delivery date directly with the appointed surveyor.
Does NVEP membership guarantee report acceptance?
No. Professional membership can support a competence review, but independence, vessel experience, insurance and acceptance by the report recipient remain separate checks.
Who appoints the surveyor?
The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly. Netherlands Marine Survey provides information and introductions and does not perform the inspection.
